siva mAdhudanE anubOgamadhAy:

One that experienced bliss with the Goddess called Sivam

sivanyAn amudhE pasiyARi:

and drank the nectar of "Knowledge of SivA" to quench His hunger;

thigazhvOd iruvOr:

the dual form of God-Goddess

was merged into one form; and

thisai lOkam elAm anubOgi:

that new form was experienced with relish by people all over the world.

ivanE ena mAl ayanOd amarOr:

"It is none other than Him" so said Vishnu, BrahmA and all the DEvAs,

iLaiyOn enavE:

"this younger son of God (Murugan) is that person" as they exclaimed;

maRai Odha:

the VEdAs also said that it was so.

iRaiyOn idamAy viLaiyAdugavE:

In order that I too can play (like You), could You ask SivA

iyal vEl udam mA aruLvAyE:

to grant me a beautiful spear and a peacock?

thava Lokam elAm muRaiyO enavE:

The entire world screamed that it (SUran's tyranny) was not fair;

thazhal vEl kodupOy:

so You took the fiery spear

asurArai thalai thUL pada:

and beheaded the demons (asuras).

Ezh kadal thUL pada:

The seven seas rose in commotion and

mA thavam vAzh uRavE viduvOne:

the great sages were saved when You threw Your spear!

kavar pU vadivAL:

With enchanting beauty like a flower

kuRamAdhudan:

is the damsel of KuRavas, VaLLi;

mAl kadanAm enavE aNai mArbA:

You love her as if duty-bound and embrace her!

kadaiyEn midi thUL pada:

For destroying the miseries of this lowly self

nOy vidavE:

and removing all my ailments,

kanal mAl varai sEr:

You chose the fiery mountain (thiruvaNNAmalai) as Your abode,

perumALE.:

Oh Great One!
