In the sacred town of Arunai,The Abode of almighty Lord Annamalai,Lived a pious and devoted child Muthammai,Who always sang the Lord's praise and lived in gay.
In early teens she tied the knot and was merry,And soon God gifted her with a daughter named Aadhi,Years two rolled and was born divine Arunagiri,Who was later chosen by Lord Muruga to sing his Glory.
The couple spent their time with children happily,But soon started to play havoc their destiny,Muthammai and her mate fell ill and died prematurely,And Fell on Aadhi the entire responsibility.
Arunagiri was Studious and fared well in school,In all subjects he did Excel,Well versed in Thevaram, Thiruvasagam and Thirukural,He developed intense love for divine Tamil.
At Sixteen he lost his senses to wordly pleasure,And did commit many an error,One by one started to lose his family wealth and treasure,Helpless, Aadi pleaded to God to change his character.
One day Arunagiri begged his sibling for money,Who did not possess even a single penny,'Change yourself' she yelled to him in agony,Shocked he rushed to end his life from the temple balcony.
Chanting 'Muruga' he jumped from the tower,Awestruck he was in the hands of a mystical power,Only a few blessed were gifted to see this wonder,'Be silent and Speechless' said and vanished the Saviour.
'Muthai tharu' he sang when his tongue encountered god's lance,Attamasidhi he attained in Viralimalai at Lord's glance,Jaba malai he received in Palani to penance and trance,And in Chendur to his song the Lord did happily dance.
The bard travelled throughout the Tamil Empire,And sang mesmerizing Thirupugazh loud and clear,People from all four directions did praise and admire,And his Fame spread far and near.
He even set his foot in far away kingdom,Including kadirgramam and Lord Shiva's abode Kailayam,All the way he sang muruga's grandeur in every hymn,With a perfect blend of rhyme and rhythm.
At that time ruled a king of the Vijayanagar dynasty,Who humbly served Arunachala his favourite deity,Towards Tamil poets he showed absolute sympathy,And always welcomed the saint fondly.
Sambandhandan a minister in the king's royal assembly,Was well known for his treachery and hypocrisy,He developed towards Arunagiri hatred and jealousy,And wanted to chase the Saint out of Sonagiri.
The wicked Minister invited Arunagiri for a poetic duelThrough sorcery he promised to bring Kali to the temple,And challenged Arunagiri to sing and bring Murga and his damsel,Failing which the loser should depart to the Jungle.
Arunagiri with deep fervor sang the song "Adalasena Rada",Much to the pleasure of the Raya King Pravuda,Like Lord Narasimha who came to rescue Prahalada,Emerged from the pillar in Golden Peacock Lord Kandha.
One day the king lost his vision,And the Wicked Minister quickly plotted a treason,He said a heavenly flower was the best medicineAnd that only Arunagiri was fit to accomplish the mission.
The Hermit soon cast his body in the temple paragra,Taking the form of a parrot flew over to indiraloga,Quickly he returned with the magical 'Parijatha',And king regained his sight by its mystical Aroma.
Sambandhandan quickly seized the opportunity,And burnt the seer's body to ash totally,On reaching Arunagiri searched for his form profoundlyBut only to realize that he had lost it permanently.
In parrot his soul took permanent shelter,And to Lord Muruga he did fully surrender,He sang 'Kandar Anuboothi' in absolute Splendor,And chose as his final resting place mother Parvathi's shoulder.
